Situated in the centre of the Irish Sea the Isle of Man is a perfect draw for many a sea kayaker. It's positioning means it can often be seen from many places on the surrounding mainland on a clear day. It also means that the tidal flows from both north and south meet around the island, requiring some good planning to make the trip. The island also provides fantastic coastline, demanding tide races and plenty of wildlife, including Basking Sharks.
In recent times this has become an increasingly popular crossing as paddlers use this route as a crossing to Northern Ireland as part of their UK Circumnavigation route.

Notes

Mike Conroy (16-Aug-23)
GPS Fail.
Approx time only - GPS fail.
From Mike:
"My watch started playing up on this. It just stopped tracking and it's totally lost. I restarted the track near the end and the watch has that bit, but it won't sync. From the watch face and timestamp on a video I posted as I left I calculate that the crossing took about 8 hours 35 minutes. "

Claire Hughes / Conor Murray (23-May-2010)
Claire and Conor paddled the return journey to Kearney the following day. The return took 14:25

Joe Leach (15-May-2012)
Day 16 of GB Circumnavigation trip.

Natalie Maderova / Michal Madera (May-2012)
Paddled as part of their GB Circumnavigation trip.

Sean Morley (02-May-04)
Sean made this crossing as part of his solo circumnavigation of the GB and Ireland.

John Willacy (15-Apr-12)
Crossing on day 3 of solo GB Circumnavigation trip

Catriona Woods (20-Jun-2013)
From Catriona:
"I found the trip really great, loved all of it. Didn't feel tired or bored at any point. Today, having had loads of time to think about it, I don't feel a massive sense of acheivement. The conditions were beautiful apart from the middle couple of hours with decent chop. The distance and time seemed be in my stride and didn't take too much out of me at all. However the balls of my feet were telling me to get a fixed solid plate fitted - whoever designed them wee foot pegs in my Nordkapp wasn't paddling long distances! So what did I learn? I have good stamina and I never loose an argument in my own company. Also, I must do a course for open crossing navigation and be able to apply educated knowledge for the impact wind has on course and resulting route and how to correct for same. I also learnt having boat fitted out is essential - I still have not quite figured out where I should have everything. I ended up with a camera, phone and another plastic case on strings around my neck - not easy to sort when wanting one of them!"
