PSK Distance Challenge 2019

A multi-location, distance paddling challenge which aims to test knowledge and planning, along with the physicality of paddling.
Paddle anywhere, any time - you choose the venue and the conditions for the best advantage.

100k_logo
There are 4 timed legs: 1 hour, 3 hour, 5 hour and the monster 100k Day (24 hrs).
Paddle any or all of them. Just paddle as far as you can inside the leg time limit - 1 hr, 3hrs and 5 hrs.
For the 100K Day challenge, you must complete at least 100km in 24 hrs to count - anything less does not qualify!
You choose the venue: flat, moving or open water, it's up to you. And if the weather drives you indoors then you can add an Ergo run.

Send in your GPS track file, we'll take out the best distance and add your run to the table.

The PSK Distance Challenge + is an unsupervised standing challenge.

Craft

  • Kayak, Ski, SUP or Canoe - Any craft you choose must be designed for and suitable for any possible conditions at the chosen venue.
  • All paddlers should be capable of paddling their chosen craft safely in all possible conditions for the chosen location.
  • All craft are to be rendered unsinkable, either by manufacturer design (bulkheads etc.) or via extra buoyancy devices (fitted airbags etc.)
  • All craft are to be in a 'seaworthy' and safe condition.
  • You must be able to self-rescue / re-enter your chosen craft in open water.
  • Leashes: If you use a leash be aware of any obstacles and the risk of entrapment, especially on moving water. You MUST be able to release your leash in a moving water entrapment situation.

  • Ensure you and your group are capable of handling any conditions or hazards possible on your chosen route.
  • The management of any risk is entirely the responsibility of the paddler(s).
  • Avoid boat/shipping channels where possible and follow all local/national regulations as applicable.
  • Paddlers are to wear a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) at all times whilst on the water.
  • PFDs should meet ISO 12402 or be CE approved, and must be well fitted and in good condition.
  • Helmets and quick-release leashes should be worn where applicable as deemed necessary by the paddler's own risk assessment.
  • ALL paddlers (inc. SUPS) are strongly advised to wear a helmet whilst on moving water. In dynamic conditions this is compulsory.
  • All craft are to be rendered unsinkable, either by manufacturer design (bulkheads etc.) or via extra buoyancy devices (fitted airbags etc.)
  • Safety equipment such as VHF radio, PLB, flares, mobile phone, map, compass, shelter etc. should be carried as deemed appropriate in your risk assesment.
  • Leave details of your route and time of return with a shore party and inform HM Coastguard as necessary.
  • YOU need to have current knowledge of or to research and plan your chosen route and venue.
  • Do NOT shoot any weirs.
  • If you choose to paddle solo be aware of the significant extra risks involved.
  • If you have any doubts - THEN DO NOT GO!
