The circumnavigation of Jura is a challenging classic. Distance alone makes it quite a single day undertaking. Tidal flows vary throughout the route, and while there are sheltered stretches there is extensive exposure too. Throw in the unpredictable Sound of Jura and of course, the Gulf of Corryvreckan, and you've got the ingredients for quite a day out.
Norbert Ziobr sets the standard for this demanding paddle.

Notes

Richard Astridge (14-Sep-21)
4 days.
Richard completes a multi-day lap of Jura, starting out from Carsaig on the mainland.

John Gray / Marcus Francis (11-Jun-25)
5 days.
From Marcus:
"Multi day – starting on the afternoon of the 7th June 2025 and finishing on the 11th June.
With a weeks supply of food and wine we planned a leisurely trip around the Isle of Jura leaving from Craighouse. Unfortunately the forecast changed from nice F 3 / F4 Easterly to a incoming F7 westerly inbound on the west coast.
We packed our boats late in the afternoon when the wind dropped and paddled back the to the start which was 48 km and a very late evening on the water.
It was the right decision as the strong westerly came in that morning as forecast."

Glenn Sutcliffe / Chris Wade (16-Jun-23)
3 days.
From Glenn:
"Chris Wade and myself have just completed a lap of Jura from Carsaig. Stunning forecast saw us travel up Wednesday morning cross to Craighouse on Jura in the afternoon, meal and pint at the Jura Hotel, lovely camping site out front. Next day round to Loch Tarbert and an explore of it's inner reaches and a night at Cruib Lodge Bothy, next day through the Corryvrecken and back Carsaig in time for food and a pint at Tayvallich inn.
Stunning trip, perfect weather, Dolphins, Eagles, otters and a Minkie whale surfacing 4m off my left shoulder… got the fright of my life."
